VernaBell Peggie Jones

Peggie was born on June 18, 1929 in Beatrice, NE to Charles and Lula Mae (Kenzie) Mills. She graduated from Beatrice High School and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University. On August 21, 1949 she was united into marriage to Gerald R. Jones in Beatrice, Nebraska. They farmed south of Wymore, NE until Jerry entered the Air Force in 1951. They moved to Northfield in August 1963.

Peggie was an active member of the United Methodist Church, chairing the Mission Sewing Group, active in the UMW, a Trustee, teaching Sunday School, funeral serving committee, ushering and volunteering in the office. She was a Girl Scout Leader. Peggie was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star for 60 plus years. She was a past Grand Chaplain of MN OES and Grand Representative of NE in MN of Sheba Chapter OES, Northfield and Myrtle Chapter OES, Farmington.

Peggie enjoyed square dancing when she was younger and was elected Queen of Fair-Bow-Si-Dos Square Dance Club. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and volunteering until her death.

She is survived by daughters, Michele (Steve) Thompson of Richfield, Pat (Paul) Jondahl of Maplewood; son, Bob (Monica) Jones of Stillwater; grandchildren, Erin (Scott) Knudsen of Cottage Grove, Pam Jondahl of Maplewood, Kent Thompson of Hopkins; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Hannah Knudsen, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Dorothy Bales and Bessie Bates; and brother, Charles W. Mills

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 11:0o am at the United Methodist Church (1401 South Maple St.) in Northfield, MN.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with an Order of Eastern Star Service at 10:45 am at the church.  A luncheon will follow the service.  Interment will be Friday, October 16, 2026 in Bethel Cemetery in Wymore, NE. Memorials to Northfield United Methodist Church, Mission Sewing Group, Myrtle Chapter OES #13, Farmington and the Cancer Society.
