Harold Jens Christensen, age 84, of New Richmond, WI, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the Hammond Health Service, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 1, 1941, in Hastings, MN, Harold was the beloved son of Jens and Myra (Ista) Christensen. He grew up in Hastings and then the family moved to New Richmond his senior year, he graduated from New Richmond High School and later attended the University of Wisconsin River Falls, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.

Harold served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, enlisting on October 11, 1966, and attaining the rank of Sergeant (T) before his discharge on July 16, 1968. In 1965, he married his beloved wife, Lona Olson, with whom he shared a life filled with love and adventure.

A lifelong farmer, Harold dedicated his life to agriculture, working diligently to cultivate the land and provide for his family. He had a passion for nature and wildlife, often teaching his children to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors. Harold cherished family trips, especially the cherished annual visits to the Eagle Center in Wabasha, MN. Known for his engaging stories, he loved to share his experiences and knowledge with those around him.

In 1966, Harold became a member of New Richmond Lodge #195 and was also a member of North Star Lodge #187. On December 1, 2012, he received the Meritorious Masonic Service Award. He received a 50 Year Service Award in 2016, and 55 Year Service Award in 2023.

Harold was Master in 1974 of the New Richmond Lodge and then became the Secretary for that lodge for many years.  Harold was well known throughout the state as a District Lecturer for all of 20 years.  He was totally committed to the Freemasons.

Harold was also involved in York Rite Bodies of Masonry and held many offices including state offices, as well as involvement  with Eastern Star for many years including state offices.

He was known as a Mason’s Mason.

He is survived by his four children: Troy (Andrea) Christensen, Kristy Christensen, Mike Christensen, and Ashley Christensen; his cherished grandchildren, Kaleb Christensen, Adan Monterroza, and Lona Monterroza; and his siblings, Harvy (Sharon) Christensen, Elden (Linda) Christensen, and Dee (Bruce) Christensen, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Harold was preceded in death by his treasured wife, Lona (2006); his parents, Jens and Myra; and his brother, Gordon, and a baby sister.

In honor of Harold’s life, a Masonic Service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 728 S Knowles Ave in New Richmond. A visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service. Harold will be laid to rest at New Richmond Cemetery, where he will receive military honors performed by the American Legion Post #80 of New Richmond.

Arrangements are being provided by Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

    Harold will be missed. His Knowledge of Masonic Ritual was far beyond what most of us understand. I have great memories of times in Lodge when he was helping us.

    I’m saddened to hear of his passing, Harold was my mentor and teacher as he guided me through my Masonic journey ultimately getting my 32nd degree in the York rite, my 32 degree in my Scottish rite, and becoming Master of the New Richmond Lodge in 1990. I always hoped for a wondered if Harold got his 33 degree awarded to him
