Duane Lewis 10/27/2014

Duane L. Lewis age 90 of Hammond died on Monday, October 27, 2014 at his home.  Duane was born the son of Stanley and Elsie (Benoy) Lewis on December 30, 1923 in Roberts, WI.  He attended grade school and graduated from Roberts High School.  After graduation he served in the Army from October 1943 and was discharged in February 1946.  He served in the Philippines, New Guinea, and Japan.  While in Luzon Philippines, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.  After his service he attended UW River Falls for a short time.  He bought his farm in 1947 by Hammond and farmed all his life.  On August 23, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lorna Henschen at Zion Lutheran Church in Cologne, MN.  They were married for 65 years.  He was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church and the  American Legion Post 432 of Hammond.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Elsie Lewis; wife, Lorna Lewis; and brother-in-law, Keck Frederick.  Duane is survived by his children, Christine (Jerry Strese) Hanson, Cynthia (Michael) Gleason, Evan (Rossina) Lewis; grandchildren, Erik (Lori) Hanson, Ryan (Sarah) Hanson, Pierce Hanson, Michaela (Josh) Knodle, Christian Gleason, Jeremy (Jessica) Lewis, Brock Lewis, Sean (Sarah) Lewis; 7 great-grandsons; brother, Bernard (Bernice) Lewis; sisters, Donna (David) Ray, Roene Frederick, Shirley (Pat) Casey, Sharon Hamilton; and many nieces, nephews relatives and friends.  A Funeral Service was held on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 11 am at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Baldwin.  Visitation was also Friday from 10-11 am at the church.  Interment was in the Baldwin Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the American Legion Post 432 of Hammond. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Baldwin.
