William Robert Ramquist age 87 of New Richmond quietly let go of his earthly life on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Prescott Care Center where he had resided since March 2011. He was born the son of Carl and Joy (Millar) Ramquist on July 23, 1927 in Beloit, WI. He was a 1945 graduate of Beloit High School and later graduated from Metropolitan State College. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On September 29, 1956, he married Alyce Roerig in Beloit, WI. They moved to New Richmond in 1959 and raised their 4 children here. Bill began his career in accounting and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. In his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering for the local Veteran Service Office driving veteran’s various places. Bill loved anything to do with trains, airplanes and everything mechanical. He adored all of God’s creatures, and he was well-known for his quiet wit and storytelling. He was a long time member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. The greatest joy of his life was his precious wife, Alyce. He is survived by his children, Mary (Dave) Holtz, Paul (Joan) Ramquist, David (Kim) Ramquist, Ruth (Jeff) Gartner; grandchildren, Dan Holtz, Zachary Becker, Sarah (Matt) Person, Hannah, Lucy and Tom Ramquist, Elizabeth and Crystal Ramquist, Griffin and Greta Gartner; great grandchildren, Leyla and Evelyn Person many relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alyce; parents, Carl and Joy; and infant brother, Robert. A memorial service was held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in New Richmond. Visitation was also Saturday from 10:00-11:00 am at church. Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.
