William Ammerman 08/24/2014

William Charles Ammerman, 88, of River Falls, Wisconsin, died Sunday, August 24, 2014. Born January 12, 1926, in Curwensville, Pennsylvania, he graduated from Curwensville High School in 1944, served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Penn State University and Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from the University of Iowa.

He taught Art and Art Education at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls from 1958 until his retirement in 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents, Scott D. Ammerman and Katharine J. (Shearer) Ammerman of Curwensville; his two brothers, Joseph S. Ammerman of Curwensville and David S. Ammerman of Clearfield; and his oldest son, Scott A. Ammerman of Columbus, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Suzanne (Fawcett) Ammerman, whom he married in 1954; son Dean M. Ammerman and wife Jenny of Eagan, Minnesota; son Steven J. Ammerman and wife Ute of Meppen, Germany; daughter-in-law Kathy (Ammerman) Shager and husband Curt and daughter Carly of Marshall, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren (Matthew S. Ammerman and wife Carrie of Marshall, Wisconsin; Melanie B. Ammerman of Los Angeles, California; Alan W. Ammerman and wife Stephanie of Poynette, Wisconsin; Kelsey Ammerman Krueger and husband Jonah of University City, Missouri; Kristin M. Ammerman of Eagan, Minnesota; and Kimberly A. Ammerman and Chiara L. Ammerman of Meppen, Germany); and two great-grandchildren (Otto M. Ammerman and Oliver W. Ammerman).

Memorial contributions may be made to either the United Methodist Church of River Falls (127 S. Second St., River Falls, WI 54022) or the University of Wisconsin – River Falls Foundation (William C. and Suzanne Ammerman Art Scholarships; 410 S. Third St., River Falls, WI 54022).

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church in River Falls.  Visitation will also be held Saturday from 10-11 am at the church.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.
