Wayne Richard Petersen, age 74, of Huntley, IL and long time resident of River Falls, WI passed away Friday, September 14, 2018 at Centegra-Huntley Hospital. He was born in Portage, WI and graduated from Rio High School in 1962. While attending University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Wayne met Annette and they married in 1970. They built a house in 1976 and for the next 42 years he dedicated his life to his family and the homestead. Wayne was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and in fact, he just loved Wisconsin. He also took great pride in his Norwegian heritage. In retirement, Wayne found his “Happy Career” mowing lawns. He will be remembered as a very thoughtful, kind, caring man, with a stubborn streak, who loved his family immensely. He is survived by his wife, Annette; children, Gretchen (Michael) Richards; Erik (Tyler Davenport) Petersen; grandchildren, Owen and Sophie Richards; sister, Donna Essock; other cherished relatives and friends. A Remembrance Gathering was held Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 3-7 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral Home (805 E Division St.) in River Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Congregational Church of River Falls, WI for the Shoebox Mission Program to benefit the men at Kinnic Falls Rehab. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.
