Wanell Hansen, born on February 16, 1929, in Mallard Iowa, passed away peacefully from natural causes on January 12, 2026. She graduated from High School in Mallard Iowa where she played basketball and was know as the “snatcher”. She moved with her family to Frederic, Wisconsin in 1946 where she met the love of her life Earl Hansen and married him in 1949.
A cherished matriarch, she dedicated her life to her family, creating a nurturing home as a devoted homemaker. Wanell will be profoundly missed by her children: Ronald Hansen, Diane Pettis, Jill Paulson, and Jerry Hansen, and brother Alan Bohn who carry forward her legacy of love and warmth.
Throughout her life, Wanell had a passion for cooking, often gathering family and friends around her table to share meals infused with love. She was also an avid reader and greatly enjoyed playing cards, hobbies that brought joy and connection to those around her. Wanell had a deep affection for music and spent many years participating in church choirs, where her beautiful voice graced many gatherings. She enjoyed traveling, a retirement home in Arizona in the winter, and summers at the family cabin on North Sand Lake. She loved to entertain, bringing friends and family together for laughter and celebration.
One of Wanell’s most memorable loves was dancing, especially the Lindy, with her favorite partner, Earl. Their joyful performances were a highlight for many, showcasing their deep bond and shared love for the rhythm of life. Wanell’s spirit and zest for life will remain in the hearts of all who knew her, serving as a reminder of her vibrant personality and the love she shared.
Wanell was preceded in death by her parents Roy Bohn and Hazel Bohn, her husband of 65 years Earl Hansen, and brothers Dennis Bohn and Gary Bohn.
Following her wishes, Wanell’s remains will be cremated. Her family plans to honor her memory with a celebration of her life on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 1:00-4:00 at Mitchell’s Cocktail Company in New Richmond, Wisconsin.
