Wanda Olson 06/20/2014

Wanda June Olson age 82 of Pepin died Friday, June 20, 2014 at St. Elizabeth’s Care Center in Wabasha, MN.  She was born the daughter of Leonard and Nanna (Peterson) Bjurquist on July 17, 1931 in Lund, WI.  On June 28, 1952, she married Leonard Olson at Sabylund Lutheran Church. She was an elementary school teacher.  Her first teaching position was in a one room school house in Lund called The Sixteenth School.  She also taught in Pepin and many years at Caddie Woodlawn in Durand, teaching fourth grade much of the time.  She retired in 1993.  Wanda enjoyed her career very much.  She was an active member at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  She taught Sunday school and served on many committees throughout the years.  She volunteered many hours to save and restore the Swedish Methodist Church in Lund where many of her descendants were members.  In early years, she was a member of the Harmony Homemakers and just recently had joined the Red Hat Ladies.  Having fun at their many outings.  Wanda enjoyed her flower gardens, shopping and having coffee with friends and family as much as possible.  Most of all, she loved, and was devoted to her big family and her four grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; siblings, Laurel Haglund, Chuck Bjurquist and Frank Bjurquist.  Wanda is survived by her children, Wendy (Jeff) Seipel of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Pete (Mary) Olson of Pepin, WI; grandchildren, Taylor Seipel, Nick Seipel, Brody Olson, Jackie Olson; siblings, Nonie Nielsen, Elliot (Betty) Bjurquist, Lois (Jim) Albarado, Jerry (Karen) Bjurquist, Lee (Kathy) Bjurquist, Nolan Bjurquist; sister-in-law, Delores Bjurquist; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  A funeral service was held Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin.  Visitation was also Tuesday from 12:00-2:00 pm at the church.  Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Maiden Rock.
