Vycella Marie Waxon, 93, of Hudson passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond, WI. She was born September 4, 1917 in Pierce County, the daughter of Wallace and Lura (Aldrich) Smith. She was a direct descendant of Dr. Philip Aldrich (1792-1858), who was Hudson’s first postmaster from 1848-1851. Vycella graduated from River Falls High School in 1933. On June 16, 1938, she married Glenn Waxon at Trinity Lutheran Church. Church activities were an important part of her life as well as enjoying the Women’s Club, Homemakers Club and Nifty Neighbors. She was also a 4-H leader for many years and favorite pastimes included reading and solving crossword puzzles. Vycella is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Larry) Wall and her son, Robert (Christine) Waxon all of Hudson; five grandchildren, Carol (Jonathan) Schmelz, Karen (Keith) Weltzien, Steven (Sarah) Wall, Katherine and Allison Waxon; seven great grandchildren, Sydney and Tyler Schmelz, Collin, Curtis and Connor Weltzien, Megan and Elizabeth Wall; brother, Marlin (Meiko) Smith of Florida; brother-in-law, Vernon (Irene) Waxon of Hudson; many nieces, nephews and family friend Ron Ott. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn in 1997; five sisters, Leora Mayer, Elwyn Waxon, Alice Tonella, Inez Boney, Olive Crimmins; and brother Charles Smith. A funeral service was held on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson. Visitation was held Thursday, December 9, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Hudson and also Friday from 10:00-11:00 am before the service. Interment was in Willow River Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Hudson.
