Virginia Hoogheem 03/17/2015

Virginia “Jinny” Forrest Hoogheem age 94 of New Richmond died Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the St. Croix Health Center in New Richmond.  She was born to William and Edna (Thalen) Forrest, on August 9, 1920, on a farm 2 miles East of Forest, WI.  Jinny began school at 6 years of age and walked the 2 miles to a one room school where all 8 grades were taught.  She attended school in Roberts from the 6th thru 8th grades and was one of the five in St. Croix County, that were on the honor roll for 8th grade.  She was united in marriage to Leonard Hoogheem on April 27, 1938 in Stillwater at the Baptist pastor’s parsonage.  They lived in the same farmhouse as her parents.  At home she cooked on a wood stove where you just put your hand in the oven to determine the temperature.  Jinny taught Sunday school (kindergarten thru 3 and 4th grades) for 20 years from 1970 to 1990, (when she then needed to have heart surgery).  She relates that she learned right along with the Sunday school children.  Jinny has been very active in many capacities of the United Methodist church all of her life.  She was considered the “HUG” lady.  Jinny greeted everyone with a hug every Sunday morning at 8:15.  Some of Jinny’s greatest memories include phrases from her Sunday school class.  The class requested to sing “We Shall Come Rejoicing Bringing in the Thieves.” “Praise Him, Praise Him, Naughty Little Children.” One child’s recitation of the 23rd Psalm was “The Lord is My Shepherd and that’s all I want.”  Jinny is lovingly remembered by her children, Alan (Diane) Hoogheem of Hudson, Elaine (Duane) Beebe of Deer Park, Geraldine Frank of Baldwin, Judy (Wally) Bice of Frederic, William “Gary” Hoogheem of New Richmond, Dan (Charlotte) Hoogheem of Somerset, Steve (Madelyn) Hoogheem of New Richmond, Lona (Earl) Thompson of Luck and Barb (Kevin) Holm of Luck; 30 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many, many nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death are her mother and father; husband, Leonard; a grandson, Philip; her brothers and sisters, Idell, Inez, Zerelda, Evelyn, Benjamin, Ivan, Ralph, Lionel, Carl, Lynn; and son-in-law, Ronnie Frank.  A funeral service was held Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 am at the New Richmond United Methodist Church.  Visitation was held Friday, March 20, 2015 from 4-8 pm at Bakken-Young Beebe Chapel in New Richmond and on Saturday from 10-11 am at the church.  Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.
