Timothy Young 01/14/2024

Timothy Earl Young, 81, died peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at The Deerfield in New Richmond, WI. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1942 and moved to Morningside Edina as a young child. There, he formed friendships which he nurtured throughout his life. Tim studied business at the University of Minnesota and worked as a commodities investor. He used his financial acumen to serve his community, as president for Edina ABC, bookkeeper for Southside Community Clinic, and on the Stewardship Committee at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. He was diagnosed with Type1 Diabetes at age 27. This changed the course of his life and inspired a perpetual quest for health and fitness. A voracious reader of theology and history, Tim drew from the past to better the present and brighten the future of the many young people he cared for.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Lois Garrison Young, as well as his firstborn son, Garrison. He is survived by his children TJ Young (Katie Polley), Jenny Schroedel (John) and Vinh Truong (Kyle Lacy); granddaughters Anna & Natalie Schroedel; siblings Nancy Olmem (Terry) and Ted Young (Barbara); as well as nieces, nephews and close friends Stephen Sando (Mary), Robbie Johnson, and Mollie Mosman. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Optage Hospice for their skillful, compassionate care as well as the extraordinary team at The Deerfield. Please direct memorials to Edina ABC (A Better Chance) www.edinaabc.org to join Tim’s mission to create a world where all can thrive.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 2 pm at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church 4439 West 50th Street, Edina, MN. Visitation was also on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 1-2 pm at the church. Interment was in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN followed by a reception at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

My condolences to Tim’s family and friends. I knew Tim from the time we both had offices on York Ave in Edina. He was a good friend. May he rest in peace. Charles Moore St Louis, MO.

It was wonderful to join you on zoom to celebrate the life of my grade school friend and neighbor, Tim. We kindergarteners became friends forever and ever. Love to Tim’s family. Kathy Bridgman Ellgen.
