Swan Melstrom

Swan Herbert Melstrom, age 76, passed away on Tuesday September 1, 2026, at the University of Minnesota Hospital from complications of an ongoing health issues.

Swan was born in Stillwater, Minnesota to Lawrence and Adelia Melstrom.  After graduating from North St Paul High School in 1968, he attended trade school.  After trade school, Swan became a lifelong member of the Carpenters Local Union 87.  He spent most of his career supervising commercial construction jobs.  In between jobs, Swan had the opportunity to work at the Minnesota state fair for two weeks.  He was later hired full-time by the fair as Superintendent of Operations and retired 20 years later.

Swan enjoyed snowmobiling and spending time doing projects around his 15-acre homestead and was known for his strong work ethic.

Swan is survived by his wife, Diane Blum.

He is preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Adelia Melstrom and sister, Karen Melstrom.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 4:00-7:00PM at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services (724 S Knowles Ave) New Richmond, Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial can be directed to Pony Tales Refuge in Colfax, Wisconsin.
