Steven Sylte 08/12/2025

April 27, 1952 – August 12, 2025

Steven G. Sylte, 73, of New Richmond, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born at Holy Family Hospital in New Richmond, Wisconsin, to Gene and Marlys Sylte.

A proud graduate of New Richmond High School, Class of 1970, Steve’s early years were shaped by determination and grit—qualities that helped him earn the title of Golden Gloves boxing champion. He worked for Andersen Windows for 19 years before joining his father to run the family’s automobile service shop. Later, he combined his love of firearms and entrepreneurship by owning and operating two gun shops over the years.

Steve was known for his big heart, love of life, devotion to his family, and for always speaking his mind. He was a passionate fan of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers, loved hunting, and had a lifelong appreciation for The Beatles. Whether swapping stories over a beer, heading into the woods, or gathering for a game, Steve cherished time spent with those he loved.

He is survived by his children: Tricia Sylte-Quinn, Eric Sylte (Jessica Plourde), and Jenni Hanson (Chad); his stepson, Jared Allen (Georgiana); grandchildren: Brittany (Heaven), Nick, Hunter, Madilynn, and Elina; and great-grandchildren: Lennon and Lola. He is also survived by his siblings: Ron (Laurie), Mark, Jeff (Kathie), Mike (Elita), and Sue (Scott); as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Marlys Sylte, his brothers, Allen and David Sylte, and infant sister, Michelle Sylte.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on September 6 from 1–4 p.m. at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services in New Richmond (728 S Knowles Ave). A continued celebration will follow at The Friendly Bar in Star Prairie. In honor of Steve’s memory, guests are invited to wear Packers or Badgers attire and come prepared to share their favorite stories of him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for monetary contributions to help with final expenses. Donations can be made at the service or sent directly to the family.  Your support during this time means more than words can say.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Steve’s family and friends. Steve was a good friend to my sister Samantha and brother-in-law Justin Dove. He loved visiting them and their three little boys! Steve was also kind enough to play Santa Claus for us the last couple Christmases. He will be missed!
