Steven John Olson, (69), of New Richmond, Wisconsin, passed away on August 3, 2023, doing what he loved – riding his yellow Honda Gold Wing. While Steven left us far too soon, the impact he had on his family and friends will be felt for years to come.
Steven, fondly known as Steve, was born on July 28, 1954, and raised by Walter and Norma Olson.
He married his sweetheart, Vicki Olson, on October 2, 1976. Over the years Steve wanted everyone to know how he sold his prized possessions (an expensive carburetor and set of rare wheels) to purchase her engagement ring. Vicki and Steve spent the next 46 plus years together raising their two children and spoiling their four grandchildren.
Steve held many titles in his life. U.S. Army Veteran of 3 years, Kempo-Goju Karate Sensei, Ford Senior Master Technician, avid drag racing enthusiast and Volkswagen fanatic. However, his favorite role was being a grandfather.
Aside from his love for going fast, whether on one of his motorcycles or highly modified race cars, Steve was well-known for his direct, unfiltered speech and jokes. Those close to Steve understood the only thing larger than his mouth was his heart. He lived to help those around him in any way he could.
Steve is survived by his wife Vicki and two children, Kimberly (Adam) Steiner and Alex (Stacy) Olson; his brothers John (Tammy) Olson, and Craig (Theresa) Dormanen, and sisters Heidi (Russel) Halderson and Sandy (Bryan) Bibeau. He is also survived by his grandsons Henry Steiner, Charles Steiner and Walter Olson, granddaughter River Olson, and extended family and many friends. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Norma Olson, and his birthmother, Shirley Fischer.
Steve’s family will host a gathering to celebrate his life was on Friday, August 11, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The service was at Bakken-Young Funeral Home (728 S Knowles Ave) in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Military honors were performed at 3PM by VFW Post #10818 of New Richmond. Private family interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood City at a later date. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
