Stephen Mullins 08/06/2021

Stephen P. Mullins, age 64, died on Friday, August 6, 2021, at his home in Star Prairie, WI. He was born the son of Richard and Theresa Mullins on September 12, 1956, in Saint Paul, MN. Steve grew up in Mendota Heights, MN and attended Brady High School. He graduated from Henry Sibley High School, class of 1974. Following high school, he graduated from St Paul Technical College. Steve worked in the flexible packaging printing industry starting with Champion Packaging in Minneapolis. He continued in the field for 43 years and was highly respected by so many. His career brought him to workplaces in Boscobel (American National Can) and Tomah (Exopack), WI and then retired to Star Prairie, WI in 2019. More important than his very successful career was his devotion to his family. He and Debra (Braeker) celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in May of this year. He and Deb raised two children and enjoyed creating memories with their kids, siblings, parents, nieces, nephews and many friends. Steve was a history buff who loved reading and completing challenging crossword puzzles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the cabin and the shack. Steve was energetic, funny, and intelligent. You just never knew when some crazy, hilarious, highly relevant comment would come out of his mouth. He was always paying attention and looking for an opportunity to make a connection with his family and friends while using humor as a tool. He was also caring and generous, always knowing the right time to comfort versus joke around. This ability of his earned him the name Uncle Goofy with his nieces and nephews. When the grandkids came along, both he and Deb became Grandma and Grandpa Goofy which have been honored titles since then. Steve taught his family and friends by example how to live every day to its fullest. His project list was always lengthy and he spent a lot of his time tinkering in the garage or his shop. Those hours often resulted in sharing his love for numerous hobbies with family and friends. His sense of adventure encouraged others to try new things, including convincing some of his family to skydive with him just 15 days prior to his passing! Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Theresa; and niece, Sarah Leonard. He is survived by his wife, Deb; children, Jenny (Ryan) Holmberg and Stephen J.; grandchildren, Erin and Owen Holmberg; siblings, Richard (Cleone), Michele (Jim) Myrick, Maureen (John) Maloney, Mary Beth (John) Ruhland, and Margaret (Eric) Meyer; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Steve and his family want to extend their thanks to the wonderful care team from Cancer Center of Western Wisconsin and Lakeview Homecare & Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please plant a sugar maple tree to honor his love of tapping trees and making maple syrup. There was an open house for Steve at 45th Parallel Distillery, 1570 Madison Ave, New Richmond, WI 54017, on Sunday, August 22, 2021, between 2 and 6 PM to celebrate the life of Steve Mullins. There was appetizers, a keg or two, cash bar, and time throughout the open house to share your memories about special times with our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Cremation Services provided by Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

I will deeply miss Steve he was like a brother I never had, We had some great times together over the years, We had great working relationship always seemed we new what the other one was thinking when working on projects. He was always there if I needed something or had questions about our work careers in the printing industry.
Our fishing and hunting trips will not be the same without him, I know he will be with me sitting in the woods or boat.
See you on the other side buddy.
    Love you,

When I think about Steve I always remember our fun times as teens and into adulthood. He was one goofy guy with a great sense of humor. I fondly think of all the fun times we all had. May he Rest In Peace.

Hi Deb, we all feel the same way right now. You’re the lucky one that got to share 47 years with Steve! About 20 years ago Steve became my mentor in the printing industry. He was an amazing guy to spend time with and learn from. I don’t think everyone understood our humor but we had a lot of fun working together. I’ll always cherish the friendship I had with you two. Take care of the kids/grandkids and enjoy life to the fullest! RIP buddy.

Deb, Jenny and Steve (aka Stephen), what a wonderful tribute to this “”Goofy” guy. I have so many fond memories of weekends at the cabin or in Star Prairie. God didn’t make many like Steve and I feel honored that he was a part of my life. He will be missed dearly. I’m praying that you can find some comfort in all the wonderful memories you’ve created. Remember that your angel is watching over you. Sending hugs and prayers. Love Nancy

So sorry for your loss Deb, and sorry to the Mullins family. Your memories of all the good things in life and the fun times together will be your guiding light from this day forward. Use these memories any time you are feeling down. Use his humor to make others smile when they are feeling sad and never let go of the title of Grandpa and Grandma Goofy…..That is an honor earned by those that loved you both. May Steve forever rest in eternal peace. Love ya kiddo !!
