Shirley Ohrt, age 90, of Hudson passed away peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Christian Community Home. She was born the oldest daughter of Albert and Bertha (Goldsmith) Tobias on August 11, 1928 in the Town of Forest, WI. Shirley was raised on a farm in Clear Lake and at 17 years old left home to begin work in Milwaukee with an insurance company. On March 10, 1951, she was united in marriage to Vern Ohrt. The couple was blessed with 4 children who were raised in Hudson. Shirley was very active and involved at Trinity Lutheran Church from small group bible studies to the Altar Society. She volunteered at the Octagon House and worked in the kitchen at the Hudson Hospital. She was faithful in visiting friends and family in area nursing homes. Shirley enjoyed sewing, quilting and reading. She will be remembered for her cooking and baking. No one left her house hungry. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Bertha Tobias; husband, Vern; son, Steven; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine (“Ben J”) Boardman, John Murtha, Margie (Thomas) Semlak; in-laws, David (Kaye) Ohrt, Katie (Don) Gilbertson. She is survived by her children, Thomas (Anne) Ohrt, Debra (James) McPhetres, Rebecca (Randall) Weiss, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Vicki Ohrt; grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Ohrt, Stacy (Kevin) Ohrt-Billingslea, Andrew (Kathy) Ohrt, Nathan and Zachary McPhetres, Connor, Cody and Collin Weiss; great-grandchildren, Phoebe, Heathe, Hunter, Celia, Lillian; sister, Arlys Murtha; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. A memorial service was held Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church-West Campus (1205 6th St.) in Hudson. Visitation was also held Monday, January 21st from 4-8 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church-West Campus as well as on Tuesday from 10-11 am before the service. Interment was in Willow River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials were preferred. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
