Shirley Mildred Nell, age 90, died on Monday, January 1, 2024 at the River Falls Area Hospital in River Falls, WI.  Shirley was born the daughter of William and Bernice (Fehling) Wittnebel on October 28, 1933 in Butler, WI. She was married to Eugene Nell in 1952. Shirley worked as a nursing assistant at Clearview Nursing Home in Juneau, WI, and as a waitress at numerous restaurants including Walker’s Restaurant in Beaver Dam, WI. Shirley received her Diploma in Business Administration. She worked at Buckbee Mears in St. Paul, MN and Polka Dot Dairy in Hastings, MN. Later, Shirley and Eugene enjoyed making and selling crafts. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Bernice Wittnebel; husband, Eugene Nell; son, Richard Nell; daughter-in-law, Robin Nell; brothers, Palmer (Aleva) Wittnebel, Oliver Wittnebel, Roger (Jeanette) Wittnebel; and sister-in-law, Dee Wittnebel. Shirley is survived by her children, Gary (Julie) Nell, Debbie (Mack) Bunce, Craig (Kelly) Nell; daughter-in-law, Nina Nell; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard Wittnebel, Robert Wittnebel; and many other relatives and friends. A private family gathering was held. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in Beaver Dam, WI. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
