Shirley Estes 04/21/2019

Shirley Ann Estes, age 80, of Star Prairie went to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 21, 2019. She was born May 4, 1938, in Spirit Lake, Iowa to Earl and Viola Estes. Her childhood in Iowa was spent on the family farm. When Shirley was in grade school, her family moved to Wisconsin where she graduated from New Richmond High School in 1956. She then began working at Fabri-Tec in Amery as well as working nights at Friday Canning. She spent her last 21 years working at Parkwood Composition Services when she retired in 1997. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church and took pride in welcoming members and visitors. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and North Star Homemakers. Shirley was a strong-willed, hard working woman and mother. When she wasn’t working or caring for her daughter, Shiela, she could be found at the ball field cheering on the local teams ringing her cowbell. When her granddaughters, Amber and Kristen, began playing sports, Shirley was their number one fan. She was full of a competitive spirit and it showed through her love of attending card parties and cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and Gophers. Shirley was a grandma to many, and a friend to all. Time spent with family and friends were very important to Shirley and Sunday meals she prepared for family gatherings were always made with an extra dose of love and usually extra butter. Her pride and joy were her two granddaughters and her loving Yorkie, Sierra. She is survived by her daughter, Shiela (Mike) Holle; granddaughters, Amber (Doug Peterson) Holle, Kristen (Charles) Nelson; brother, Virgil Estes; sister, Norma Schmidt; many close nieces, nephews, special relatives and friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Viola Estes, brothers, Wesley and Donald Estes; and sister, Alice Gibson. A funeral service was held Friday, April 26, 2019 at 4 pm at Bethany Lutheran Church (415 Bridge Ave.) in Star Prairie. The visitation was also Friday from 2-4 pm at the church. A private interment in Oakland Cemetery will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the doctors and nurses of Westfields Hospital and Clinics, St. Croix Health Center and The Deerfield staff for the many years of care and comfort to Shirley and her family. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

She will be missed by all that knew her. May her vivacious spirit live on in those she loved.
