Sherri Fassbender 06/05/2024

Sherri Lynn Fassbender was born on June 23, 1965, to Clayton and Irene (Dionne) Brown in the city of Marquette, Michigan. She spent her remaining days surrounded by family and friends, and passed away peacefully at home, on June 5, 2024, after a long battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s Disease), facing her illness with faith, hope and her beautiful smile.

Sherri grew up in Marquette, Michigan and graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 1983. Sherri loved to sing in the Redman Chorale, and she was an excellent tennis player, winning a U.P. state championship in doubles tennis. She attended college at Northern Michigan University, where she earned a degree as a Medical Secretary. In 1984 Sherri married Carl Fassbender, and they relocated to East Lansing, Michigan where Sherri earned another degree in Dietetics from Michigan State University.

While in East Lansing, Sherri gave birth to two wonderful daughters, Katherine (Katie) and Jessica. The family moved to Woodbury, Minnesota in 1992 and Sherri completed her dietetic internship at the University of Minnesota. Sherri spent time as a dietitian, and also utilized her Medical Secretary degree as the family expanded. Emily and Eric were born in St. Paul. Minnesota rounding out the family.

Sherri touched many lives in her short time with us. Sherri was a social person, making friends with anyone she came in contact with. She was active in her church, loved family events especially around the holidays, and liked to travel to see new places and things. Sherri was an avid game player, and especially liked Scrabble. Sherri most liked singing: in church, in the car, or anywhere. Sherri enjoyed the cabin on Leech Lake, just sitting and watching the sunsets and the waves on the lake. She was extremely happy to meet her new grandson, Jaxon Wolf.

Sherri will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Carl, daughters Katie Fassbender, Jessica (Matt) Kometz, Emily (Max) Wolf, son Eric Fassbender, parents Clayton and Irene Brown, sister Stacy (Randy) Larson, brothers Greg (Jeanne) Brown, and Gerry (Alison) Brown, Mother and Father in-law Linda and David House, and Walter Fassbender, sisters-in-law Alana Brown, Lisa (Ken) Hanselman, Allison (Dave) Belanger, Mary (Rex) Tanakit, and a brother in-law Paul (Cindy) Fassbender, along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in heaven by her brother Gary, and grandparents.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 11:00 on Friday, June 28, 2024, at St. Ambrose of Woodbury Catholic Church in Woodbury, Minnesota. Sherri will be interred at Fort Snelling at a date to be determined.

I’m so sorry to hear of Sherri’s passing. I had the privilege of getting to know her when Carl and my then-husband were deployed together to Iraq. She was always a joy to be around and I will miss the opportunity of getting to hear her laugh through some chance meeting somewhere.
Thoughts are with everyone who knew her but especially you, Carl, and the kids.

Though it has been a few years since I have seen Sherri, her impact on me has never left. I enjoyed many days working with her at Walgreens, singing ‘Oh Sherrie’ to her. Taking in plays & lunches here & there. Her presence was enough to brighten any day. I’m so sorry to learn of her struggles & passing. I send all my prayers to her family & friends. May you brighten the heavens now Sherri.
