Sharon Groenwoldt 03/22/2011

Sharon Lee Groenwoldt, age 67, died on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the St. Croix Health Center in New Richmond.  Sharon was born January 10, 1944 to Dorothy and Ted Groenwoldt.  She was raised by Florence and Vernon Duxbury of Alma Center and grew up on their family farm along with her foster brothers Terry and Joe.  She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962.  On June 1, 1963 she married Robert E. Fischer, Jr. and gave birth to twins (Steven & Stacey) February 2, 1970.  She gave birth to her third child (Andy) February 15, 1976.  Sharon received a Bachelor of Science degree in Philosophy in May, 1986.  She worked as an Administrative Technician for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service from 1988 to 1994 in Winona, MN then transferred to Savanna, IL where she retired in 2006 after 18 years of federal service.  Sharon had a green thumb and a love for gardening, so created many beautiful flower gardens around her house.  She also loved animals and had many pets throughout her life.  In recent years she had three very special companions; Chauncey (Miniature Dachshund), Zimmer (Cat) and Sadie (Yorkie Poo).  She is survived by her children – Andrew Fischer of Hudson, Stacey Chinander (Fischer) of Hudson, and Steven Fischer of Selah, WA; 3 grandchildren – Eli, Emma & Chloe Fischer of Selah, WA; 4 sisters – Sophie Benrud (Jim) of Melrose, Yvonne Wolf (Ted) of Shawano; Elaine Maggard (Charles) of Mayer, AZ; and Mary Molitor of Arcadia; brother John Groenwoldt (Ellen) of Waukesha; foster brother Joe Duxbury of Sparta; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by foster brother Terry Ronkowski, foster parents Florence and Vernon Duxbury, biological parents Dorothy and Ted Groenwoldt, brother Teddy Groenwoldt, brother Glen Groenwoldt, and sister Margaret Pagel (Frank).  A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 1 pm at Bakken-Young’s Beebe Mortuary in New Richmond.  Visitation was also on Saturday from 10am-1pm at the funeral home.  A Luncheon followed at the St. Croix Health Center’s Social Room.  Interment will be at a later date in the Eastlawn Cemetery in Alma Center, WI.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of New Richmond.
