Roger Edward DeSmith passed away on June 21, 2011 at American Heritage Care Center in Hammond, Wisconsin, surrounded by his wife and two daughters. Roger was born to Edward C. DeSmith and Ann (Berends) DeSmith in Glenwood City, Wisconsin on January 25, 1941. On May 22, 1965 he married Karen (Koosmann) DeSmith, and to this union, they adopted two daughters. He is survived by his wife Karen, daughters Kristin DeSmith (Douglas Causey) of Anchorage, Alaska and Amy DeSmith (Brian) Nadeau of Baldwin, Wisconsin, grandchildren Clarissa Siegal-Causey, Emily Causey, Maya Nadeau, Brenan Nadeau, Evan Nadeau and Arianna Garcia, sister Joyce Nieman, brothers David (Judy) DeSmith and Glenn DeSmith, sister-in-law Marlys DeSmith and brother-in-law Marvin Cassellius, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Ann DeSmith, brother Rodney DeSmith, sister Shirley Cassellius and brother-in-law Earl Nieman. Roger graduated from Glenwood City High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1962. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Minnesota. Roger served as President of the Hammond Lions Club and President of the Hammond Golf Club. During his professional career he worked for Kimberly Clark in Neenah, Wisconsin; the Gillette Company in St Paul, Minnesota; the Douglas Hanson Company in Hammond, Wisconsin; owned DeSmith’s IGA in Hammond, and prior to his retirement in 2007, he worked for Land O’ Lakes Corporation in Arden Hills, Minnesota. A memorial service to celebrate Roger’s life was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hammond last weekend. Cremation services were arranged through Bakken-Young in Baldwin, Wisconsin.
