Robert “Bob” Peterson 02/19/2017

Robert “Bob” Lawrence Peterson age 82 of New Richmond died peacefully on Sunday February 19, 2017 with his wife by his side at the Deerfield Gables Care Center.  Bob was born the son of Lawrence and Marion (Kinne) Peterson on January 31, 1935 in New Richmond.  He attended New Richmond Public School graduating with the class of 1953.  Bob went on to UW-Stout, graduating in 1957 with a B.S. degree in teaching, he also was the pitcher for the Stout baseball team. In 1958, Bob served in the National Guard for a couple of years.  He furthered his education, receiving his M.S. degree from UW-Eau Claire in 1965.  He spent the first two years of his career teaching at Colfax High School before returning to New Richmond to continue teaching another 33 years.  During those years, Bob taught Tech Ed, Science, Special Ed and behind the wheel.  Throughout his teaching career, he coached hockey, football, basketball and baseball.  He was one of the original board members of the New Richmond Hockey Association.  He was also the first WIAA hockey coach in New Richmond.  Bob was named hockey coach of the year in 1982-83 by the Northwest Hockey Conference.  He was known as “Tiger Bob” by his players.  Together with Bernie Golz, he started and coached the New Richmond Junior High Football program.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, cooking, gardening, and his lake home on Shell Lake.  He was a long-time member of the New Richmond United Methodist Church.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-laws, Merle Jarchow, Roy Haman, Herb Haman; sister-in-laws, Dorothy Haman and Carol Bahn.  He is survived by his wife, Catherine “Kay” (Blum); children, Jeff (Terry) Peterson, Larry (Anne) Peterson; 3 grandchildren, Nick, Chad and Sadie.  A Celebration of Bob’s Life was held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1 pm at the New Richmond United Methodist Church.  Visitation was also Saturday from 11-1 pm at the Church.  Private interment will be at a later date.  Memorials are preferred to New Richmond United Methodist Church.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.

    As we remember Bob and the person he was, our hearts are with his family. Bob’s love for the outdoors and his genuine care and concern for the youth will forever be remembered.
