Robert “Bob” Gene Smith, age 92, died on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Spring Valley Care Center in Spring Valley, WI. He was born the son of Arthur and Nora Smith on December 26, 1931 in River Falls. Bob grew up in River Falls graduating from River Falls High School, class of 1949. He married Marlys Johnson on May 15, 1950 at St. Bridget Church. Bob worked as a carpenter and for 3M as well as worked at the University of River Falls and as a bartender at Emma’s Bar. He loved woodworking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and playing golf. In his later years, Bob enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren sporting events. He was witty and always had a twinkle in his eye.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Nora; wife, Marlys; siblings, Roy (Bernadette), Mildred (Walter) Peterson, and Muriel (Howard) Jensen. He is survived by his children, Mike (Kathy), Michele (Howard) Halverson, and Melissa (Greg) Godden; grandchildren, Brian (Carol), Jessica (Mike) Fogarty, Alicia (Nick) Davis, Dan (Crystal) Halverson, Jake Godden, Josh Godden; great-grandchildren, Brandon (Tori) Smith, Luke (Marie Hamlin) Smith, Molly Fogarty, Matthew Fogarty, Shakira Davis, Talan Davis, Corbin Halverson, Benton Halverson; and many relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 11:00AM at St. Bridget Catholic Church (211 E Division Street River Falls, WI) with a visitation starting at 10:00AM. Interment was in St. Bridget Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

Fred and I are saddened by the news of Bob’s passing. We always enjoyed visiting with him throughout the years. He had a special place in our hearts. Sending our deepest sympathies and prayers. We will miss him. God bless all of you.
