Patrice “Pat” Lynn Wienke passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2024 at Westfield Hospital in New Richmond, WI. She was born in Ramsey County, Minnesota on June 30, 1959 to Harold and Gloria (Fernlund) Jones. The family moved from Minnesota to New Richmond, WI and on November 26, 1977 Pat married her high school sweetheart, Steven Wienke. Their daughter, Melissa Jo was born the next year in North Carolina.
Pat was a proud military wife, mother, and homemaker as she and Steve traveled the country with the Air Force living in North Carolina, Virginia, California, Maryland, and finally Las Vegas, Nevada. After retirement, Pat and Steve moved back “home” to New Richmond where she was a caregiver for her mother. She enjoyed meeting new people and with all the moves she loved to decorate and make each new house a home. She loved to try her hand at different crafts, including ceramics and needlework, finding new recipes and baking old family favorites. She volunteered in every post whether it was on the OB ward in Virginia or as Den Mother with Melissa’s scout group in California. Pat also had a soft spot in her heart for the numerous animal friends who would share their home. The last cat, Gizmo, was an especially close companion. Despite all her health issues, she was doing quite well and still meeting every challenge with determination.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Steven Wienke, father Harold (Kathryn) Jones, sister Christine (Richard) Thompson, brother Robert Jones, son-in-law Layne Olson, sister-in-law Lavonne (Joseph Lado) Wienke, six step-siblings and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Melissa Jo Olson, mother and stepfather Gloria and Marvin Linder, father- and mother-in-law, Paul and Leitha Wienke, sister- and brother-in-law, Loreen and Dale Moe, and her Jones and Fernlund grandparents.
A memorial gathering will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 1:00-4:00 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services (728 S Knowles Ave.) in New Richmond. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
