Orland C. “Dutch” Spielman age 92 of Hudson passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at Christian Community Home in Hudson. He was born the son of Charles and Julia (Simpson) Spielman on December 3, 1923 in Black Earth, WI. Orland attended and graduated from Boyceville High School. While in Boyceville he joined Boy Scouts earning himself an Eagle Scout. After graduation, Orland was drafted and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1943-1946 obtaining rank of Petty Officer CM 1/C. While in the Coast Guard, he was stationed on LST 18 in the South Pacific. On June 21, 1947, he married Myrtle Gerlach at Trinity Lutheran Church. Orland was an active member of the Hudson VFW, serving on the honor squad and a long time member at Trinity Lutheran Church. Orland worked at Nor-Lake in Hudson retiring March 17, 1989. Over the years he enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing and hunting. In the fall of 2000, Orland shot a trophy buck and that became his final deer hunting season. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Myrtle; daughters, Lynn (David) Dummer, Jan (Marty) Engel; daughter-in-law, Cindy Spielman; grandchildren, David C. (Stacy) Dummer, Lisa (Ben) Percy, Lori (Mike) Brenner, Daren (Jamie) Dummer, Sara (Ron) Henke, Tylar (Carrie) Spielman, Lee (Leslie) Engel, Jeff Engel; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Douglas Spielman; great-granddaughter, Claire Dummer; brothers, Kenneth (Helen) Spielman, Gale (Doris) Spielman; sister, Viola (Kelly) Smith. A memorial service was held Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church (1205 6th St.) in Hudson. Visitation was held Friday, June 3rd from 5-8 pm at Trinity Lutheran and one hour before the service on Saturday. Interment was in Willow River Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Hudson.
