Myrtle Peabody 01/28/2011

Myrtle Grace Peabody age 80 of Hammond died Friday January 28, 2011 at the Westfields Hospital in New Richmond.  Myrtle was born May 1, 1930 to Joseph and Norma (Matteson) McKilligan in Harrold, South Dakota.  Her father moved to Hammond WI in 1938 followed in 1939 by Norma with the children, Myrt and June.  She graduated from Hammond High School in 1948 and married Lamoine Peabody on December 18, 1948 at the Hammond Methodist Church.  Myrtle and Lamoine lived in Bismarck and Minneapolis before moving back to Hammond in 1956. They bought a farm south of Hammond in the late 50’s.  Myrtle was a homemaker, taking care of the farm, children and chores.  She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Homemakers and the Hammond Methodist Church.  She was known for her homemade bread.  Myrtle is survived by her four children, Christine (Douglas) Veenendall of Baldwin, Bill (Kathy) Peabody of Roberts, Joe Peabody of Lake Geneva, WI and Nancy (Dave Glassing) Peabody of Roberts; twelve grandchildren, Jodi Peterson, Jennifer Jacobson, Joy Kusilek, Scott Veenendall, Chad, Jeremy and Cory Peabody, Michelle Kerr, Michael, Greg and Andrew Peabody and Jerik Espersen; 17 great grandchildren;  sisters, June Peterson of Mounds View, MN and Lori Thompson of Baldwin; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Robert (Diane) Peabody; sisters-in-law, Betty Peabody and Caroline Harris.  Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Norma McKilligan; husband, Lamoine; sister-in-law, Nancy Peabody; brothers-in-law, Darold Peabody, William Peterson and Allen Harris; and nephew, Michael Peterson.  A Funeral Service was held Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11am at the Hammond United Methodist Church.  Visitation was Friday February 4, 2011 from 3-8 pm at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Baldwin and Saturday for one hour prior to the service at church.  Interment was in the Hammond Cemetery.  Arrangements were with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Baldwin.
