Myrta Gabriel Liquet, 76, resident of New Richmond, WI, entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, in the Intensive Care Unit of Regions Hospital in Saint Paul, MN. Myrta was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on August 8, 1936, the youngest daughter of the late Elpidio Gabriel and Monserrate Liquet. She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1958, and worked for the City of Luquillo, Puerto Rico as Director of Family Planning. She married the late Alberto Santiago, a Civil Engineer from Salinas, Puerto Rico in 1958. Together they raised their children Alberto Jr., Luis Roberto, Ytmar and Carlos Santiago in the town of Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Myrta was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. She was extremely talented in hand crafts, sewing and quilting. She made many exquitite wedding gowns and quilts for relatives and friends through the years, all works of art. Myrta moved to Maplewood, Minnesota in 1993, and worked as a teacher in School District 622 in Oakdale until 1999. She moved to New Richmond in 2010, to live close to her children. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Alberto Santiago in 1991, and her stepson Alberto Jr. in 2002. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her children Luis Roberto Santiago (residing in Puerto Rico), Ytmar Santiago Crandall (Eric L.) and Carlos Alberto Santiago, residents of New Richmond, WI, as well as granddaughters Rouselyn Santiago Perez (Carlos) and Angela Ivelisse Santiago of Puerto Rico and grandsons Alberto Santiago II and Richard Santiago; her sister Idalie Gabriel Liquet (Puerto Rico) and great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers in law and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 3 PM Friday, December 14, 2012, Cementerio Nuevo in Fajardo, Puerto Rico where she will join her loving husband in their eternal peace. Friends and relatives are invited.
