Michael P. Olson, age 74 of New Richmond, died Monday, November 5, 2018 peacefully at his home surrounded by family. Mike was born the son of Carl and Helen (nee Kolbrek) Olsen on July 3, 1944 in Milltown, WI. He graduated from Unity High School with the class of 1962. He then lived in the Twin Cities while working at Montgomery Wards. After receiving a Machining degree from Dunwoody Technical School, he moved to New Richmond, WI where he raised his family. He dedicated his life to Doboy/Bosch and retired after 45 years as a tool room machinist. He loved to ride his Goldwing around the country striking up conversations with strangers and finding a connection. He had a passion for downhill skiing and loved the outdoors. Family and friends were blessed to receive many of his hand-made furniture pieces. Mike was a father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, and friend who was incredibly loved and will be missed dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Helen; brothers, Jim and Scott; and nephew, Tim Meissner. Mike is survived by his daughter, Debbie (John) Liedl; sons, David (Heidi) and Eric; grandchildren, Nicholas Olson, Emily Olson, and Mia Liedl; former wife, Sherry (nee Paulson) Gjonnes; sisters, Marilyn (Dick) Meissner and Joyce (Mike) Byl; nieces and nephews, Tom (Shari) Meissner, Michael, Matthew, Kim (Vinny) LaViano, Lauren, Emily, Mark Meissner, Sara Byl, Noah, Jenny (Ben) Binversie, Jake, Nick, Kristyn, Laura (Corey) Krenz, Lilly and Paul Byl, and Michelle and Jason Olsen; cousin, Sandra (Lynn) Clasen; and many other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service was held on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 2 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services (728 S. Knowles Avenue New Richmond, WI). Memorial Visitation was also on Sunday from 12 noon – 2 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of New Richmond.

    Will never forget snowmobiling and visiting with Mike. Sorry to miss his passing, as we are in Mesa for the winter.

    I’m so sorry for your loss. Mike was a wonderful person and I love him with all my heart.. Mike will always have a special place in my heart, he was kind, humorous, caring and the love of my life. I will meet him again in the afterlife. He is so special ??
