Matthew Binford 01/14/2023

Matthew Binford, age 68, of New Richmond, left us too soon on January 14, 2023.  He was born March 8, 1954 in Greenfield, Indiana to Doris and James Binford. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1972 and started his career at Andersen Windows. In 2011, he retired from Andersen Windows after a 39 years.  Matt cherished being outside grilling for Mama and sitting on the porch together.  Matt loved to golf and treasured his time with family and friends. He was a great brother and best friend. His daughter said he was the best hand holder. Matt will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was everyone’s rock, and you could always count on “Binny” for a good laugh.  He may have had a tough exterior, but deep down he had a huge heart and was just a big teddy bear.  Through organ donation, Matt was able to give the gift of life to two other families.  Matt is proceeded in death by his parents, James and Doris Binford, his in-laws, Curt and Betty Bottolfson and grandson, Brayden Binford.  Matt is survived by his wife Kathy Binford; daughters, Harper (Andrew Zywiec) Binford and Hayley (Joseph) Needham; grandsons, Graham and Brigham Needham; brothers, Mitchell (Diana) Binford, Michael (Boyd) Binford and Mark (Kathleen) Binford; nieces and nephews, Carly (Erick) Ohman and family, Godson Cole (Stacy) Binford and family; sisters in law Debbie (John) Shattuck & family, Krissy (Randy) McCann & family; and Aunt Carol “Deano” Rihm, along with many other friends who he thought of as family.  Funeral service for Matt took place at First Lutheran Church, 218 County Road K, New Richmond, Wisconsin, on Monday January 23, 2023 at 1pm.  Visitation was at 11am.  Reception immediately followed the service and was held at the New Richmond Golf Course,  1226 180th Ave, New Richmond, Wisconsin. Arrangements with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

You left way too soon Binny but the memories will last forever. Hockey on Sunday mornings in Hudson. Golf on Sundays in New Richmond with Mitch and Bert’s. Whenever I saw you it was “hi Satchmo or with a big smile on your face you’d say “how’s it going Cheesehead”. You were one of a kind and I’m so glad I got to spend a little time with you. You leave behind a great family. God bless them all.

  • Heidi Smith Erspamer Posted January 22, 2023 11:08 am

My sympathies go out to the Binford family. My parents became good friends with Jim & Dorsey when they moved to Stillwater from Indiana. Many great family memories were made over the years. I will always remember Matt as having an ever present twinkle in his eyes and a grin on his face. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.

  • Jeff Wieden Posted January 27, 2023 12:29 pm

Binny was one of the good guys and I am so sorry for the family’s loss. I counted Binny as one of my really good friends. So many memories, Valley league baseball, High School sports and many years of fast pitch softball. He was always so much fun and he could make anyone laugh. He was in my wedding and I still remember what a wonderful person he was. Matt had so many friends and he will be missed. Rest in peace my friend.

  • Jeff & Terrie Heimann Posted January 31, 2023 1:11 pm

I considered Matt my best friend for 57 years. He was always there for you when you needed him. All who knew him knew his great sense of humor and compassion for others. He came from a great family Mom, Dad, 3 brothers and their families. He and Kathy made a wonderful family with Harper and Hayley and his grandsons. He was fun to golf with, fish with, converse and chuckle with and have a drink with. A truly great person to all. Gone way too soon. RIP my Bro. We will love and miss you forever. Here’s to you Matt…a CC and water! “The Spirit is in the sky…”
