With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Mary Marguerite Vanasse (née Chamernick), who passed away on March 20, 2026 after an 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer. In the days leading to her passing, she was surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Mary was born on July 8, 1962 in Duluth, Minnesota to William and Charlene (Pohl) Chamernick. She was the eldest of five children. On September 26, 1992, she married Daniel Vanasse of Somerset, Wisconsin, and they built a beautiful life together.
A woman of extraordinary grace, kindness, and strength, Mary welcomed everyone into her life with an open heart. She loved her family fiercely. She found joy in reading, quilting, camping, drinking coffee, tending to her home, and laughing with her friends. A woman of deep faith, Mary inspired many in their walk with the Lord.
Mary is survived by her husband, Daniel Vanasse; her children, Eleanor (Jacob) Anson and Aric (Jaclyn) Vanasse; her granddaughter, Nyla; her mother, Charlene; her siblings, Teresa (Earl) Smith, Michael (Lynette) Chamernick, and Mark Chamernick; her parents-in-law, Andre and Nancy (Martell) Vanasse; her brothers-in-law, Kyle (Sue) Vanasse and Neil (Kelley) Vanasse; and her many nieces, nephews, and their children. She was preceded in death by her father, William Chamernick and brother, Daniel Chamernick.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Anne Catholic Church (141 Church Hill Road) in Somerset, Wisconsin. Visitation was on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services (728 S Knowles Ave) in New Richmond, Wisconsin and also on Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 am at the church. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
One hundred more years with her wouldn’t have been enough.

I was deeply saddened to hear this news. Mary was a truly kind and caring person—devoted as a mother, daughter, sister, wife, and cousin. I will always cherish the many fond memories I have of her.
My heartfelt condolences to the entire family.
My heart is hurting over Mary’s passing. She was always so soft spoken with a very calming voice. I would seek her out at our gatherings because it was such a joy to talk with her.
I especially enjoyed our family reunions with all of us children vying to win the different competitons. When we got older, she would show up and take charge of whatever else needed to be done.
I have so many fond memories of Mary. Please accept our condolences and know that we care. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

I am sorry for your loss. Mary was awesome! I mostly knew her as Terri Chamernick’s kindhearted big sister. Mary was a talented musician and had a great laugh and sense of humor. It was just fun to be around her. She will be missed by many. Hugs, prayers and condolences. Mary Gothier
I am saddened to hear of Mary’s passing. Mary was in one of my first 2nd grade classes at Chisago Lakes. I remember her as a bright, sweet girl. Sending sympathy to her family.
