Mary Knutson 01/25/2024

Mary L. Knutson, age 89 of New Richmond, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Mary was born the daughter of Albert and Agnes (Hajdu) Cox on May 5, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA. She grew up in Philly, graduated from Kensington High School with the class of 1952. Mary was married to Lyle Knutson on March 20, 1954. While Lyle was in the service, they moved to Georgia, Texas and eventually moved to Rice Lake, WI where they started their family. In 1965 moved to Altoona, WI for a few years before finally settling in New Richmond, WI in 1979. Mary worked as a Library Aide at the Friday Memorial Library in New Richmond for many years. She enjoyed ceramics, genealogy, gardening, sewing and cooking. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a kind, gentle soul with a strong willed presence. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Agnes Cox; husband, Lyle Knutson; grandson, Jordan Knutson; sister, Sarah (Tom) Ferrari; and brother-in-law, Charles Martin. Mary is survived by her children, Eric (Denise Myren) Knutson, Lisa (Kriss) Zeller, Mark (Suzie) Knutson, Laura “Peanut” (David) Becker, Gary “Buck” (Amy) Knutson; grandchildren, Jacob Knutson, Rebekah (Scott Armitage) Knutson, Justin Zeller, Ethan (Megan Rielly) Zeller, Kaitlin (Caleb Truax) Zeller, Emily Zeller, Kristina (Doug Oman) Knutson, Johanna Knutson, Matthew Knutson, Olivia Becker, Tyler (Tia) Lee, Alyssa (Devon Coon) Lee, Lillian Knutson, Mackenzie Knutson; great-grandchildren, Charlie Armitage, Zachary Lee, Zoey Lee; sister, Margaret Martin; sister-in-law, Janet Knutson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Funeral Service was held on Saturday February 3, 2024 at 11 am at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services 728 S Knowles Avenue New Richmond, WI and streamed live through the link just below this obituary. Visitation was on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 4-8 pm and on Saturday from 10-11 am at the funeral home. Interment was in Nora Cemetery in Rice Lake, WI. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

    Aunt Mary you where a kind and caring woman who raised a great family your memory will go on forever you will be missed immensely you are reunited with your mom and dad and husband and sister we know you be looking down on family keeping them safe rest in peace love you aunt Mary

    Thank you for trusting us with your mom’s care. Yes she was very strong willed but her smile and appreciation was always there. We will miss her and take good care.

    I first met Mary when I worked with her at Carleton A. Friday Memorial Library in New Richmond. She was a very kind and determined person, and was wicked smart. I learned a lot from her about genealogy, computers, and human nature. David and I extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends.
