Marlys Sylte 04/05/2021

Marlys Sylte, age 87, of New Richmond, WI died Monday, April 5, 2021 at the Deerfield Gables. Marlys was born the daughter of William and Lillian (Olson) McGee on September 1, 1933 in Amery, WI. The family moved to New Richmond in 1941. Marlys graduated from New Richmond High School. On October 20, 1950, she was married to Gene Sylte at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Marlys raised eight children and helped run Sylte Auto Repair with her husband Gene. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, and needle point. She kept a garden, loved to care for her flower beds. Marlys was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a strong willed, spirited woman who was very loving and nurturing. Marlys was a very active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Lillian McGee; husband, Gene; infant daughter, Michelle Lynn; son, Alan; grandsons, Richard and Alan, Jr.; brother, William, Jr.; sister, Marilyn Johnson; and brother-in-law, Larry Johnson. Marlys is survived by her children, Steve, David (Cheryl), Ronald (Laurie), Jeff (Kathie), Mark, Sue (Scott) Ferrell, Michael (Elita); sister, Marjorie Mercer; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Mary McGee; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11 am at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church 365 W River Drive New Richmond, WI and streamed live through the link just below this obituary. Visitation was also on Saturday from 9-11 am at the church.  Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
