Marilyn L. Bostrack, 89, of River Falls, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at The Sycamore, with her daughters, Tamara Ducklow and Tonnja Magee, by her side.
She was born on September 13, 1935, in Stoughton, Wisconsin, as the third daughter of Oscar and Harriet (Orvold) Nelson. Marilyn graduated from Stoughton High School in 1953. On June 7, 1953, she married Jack Bostrack. After brief stays in Wayne, Nebraska, and Shell Rock, Iowa, they settled in River Falls in 1962, where they moved into their forever home in 1963.
Marilyn worked as the business manager for Associated Dentists in River Falls and as the secretary for the Geography Department at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF). She was a busy and creative soul, with many hobbies, including sewing, knitting, and quilting. Marilyn enjoyed countless hours spent at various cabins up north, where she loved being outdoors, fishing, and rowing in the “little red boat” built by Jack. Her mother’s famous fudge, Grandma Ora rolls and “Gram’s hot beefs” were family favorites that became treasured traditions.
Marilyn’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She lived by the belief “family first,” a value she instilled in her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Tamara (Doug) Ducklow and Tonnja (Patrick) Magee; grandchildren, Chad (Shannon) Moore, Jason (Katie) Moore, Jarred (Jillian) Pechacek, Lucas (Kinga) Pechacek, Rebecca (Jason) Halada, and Matthew (Ashley) Magee; great-grandchildren, Makenna, Zelli, Kira, Aubree, Jayden, Jayma, Colette, William, James, Lucy, John, Randi, and Tucker; her sister, Rae Stelzer; brothers-in-law, Dale Bostrack and Wayne Bostrack; and close friends who were like family including Pat Delebo, Ann Jenkins, and Lisa Moody.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her daughter, Zenda (Steve) Moore; her parents, Oscar and Harriet Nelson; her in-laws, Martin and Ora Bostrack; her nephew, Martin (Marty) Bostrack; her sister, Lois Quale; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Bostrack, Linda Bostrack, and Patsy Bostrack; and brothers-in-law, John Quale, Ken Stelzer, and Terry Bostrack.
A memorial service will be held at Ezekiel Lutheran Church (202 South 2nd Street, River Falls) on Thursday, December 12th, 2024. Visitation will take place from 1:00pm- 2:00pm with the service beginning at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ezekiel Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are being made by Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.

She was such a nice person, my condolences to the entire family.
Marilyn was such a dear soul with a lovely sense of humor. She loved her family so much and they loved her in return. Jack and Zelda will welcome her with open arms. 💕
When I sit on Zenda’s bench at Glen Park, I will smile for both of you.
She was a great friend and neighbor!
Marilyn was such a kind and giving person. She will be missed.
Marilyn was the youngest of three sisters that grew up one mile away from our dairy farm. I was a classmate of the oldest, Lois & her sister Rae was one year younger. They all three rode the Stoughton HIgh School bus at one time. It is sad to see that the youngest is now gone. I have fond memories of that era, including our times with the Pleasant Hills 4-H club. Marilyn was the feisty one and much younger.
Would like to say hello to Rae, and express my condolences for having lost both of her sisters, husband & brother in laws.
Thank you so much for those memories! She was a fiesty one!

Jason and family, We are sorry for your loss. Marilyn was a great neighbor for many years. We miss her – and her dogs. The neighbor hood is not the same without her.
We are so sorry for your loss, thinking of all of you. You are on our prayers Barb and Steve Nelson
Around 2017 Marilyn learned I missed walking dogs. So, she contacted me. I lived close by her home. We arranged for me to walk her beloved “Choke” dog daily. I would also show up at 4:00 P.M. and walk Choka at Glen Park which was right across the street. After the walks, Marilyn and I had great discussions about all kinds of topics, profound and light and silly! I really admired her and like her a lot. I will miss her. She was a dog lover, like me.
Fred and I are so sorry to hear about Marilyn’s passing. She waa a kind and loving person. Our deepest sympathies to all you! Sending you our love and prayers.
Marilyn was a kind and loving lady. I always enjoyed saying hi to her at church services. And also Jack when he was alive.Daughter Zenda was cut from the same cloth.
So sorry to hear this news. We lost mom (Karel, cousin of Jack) in April of this year. I send hugs to your family for your loss.
