Marie P. Bengtson, age 100, of Red Wing, MN and formerly of Maiden Rock, WI passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Deer Crest Memory Care in Red Wing.
She was born to Fred and Ruth (Nelson) Lindholm, the eldest daughter of their 7 children. At age 9, Marie’s mother, tragically died and she became the mother the family needed. Through the hardship, she found Jesus at a young age, and this faith and love lasted the rest of her life.
Following school, Marie earned her teacher’s certification and taught for a few years. In December 1943, she married Raymond Erickson, and the couple was blessed with 3 daughters. With Raymond in the Navy, the family moved around a lot. The marriage dissolved and Marie became a single working mother in the 1950’s, working as an executive assistant at SuperValu. In October 1968, she married Wayne Bengtson and moved to Maiden Rock, WI. Marie was an active member of the Lund Mission Covenant Church and enjoyed gardening and quilting. She was on the board for the restoration of the Swedish Methodist Church in Lund, WI. Marie enjoyed traveling to visit family, and especially enjoyed her trip to Sweden with Wayne to visit distant relations. She kept up with technology and that closed many generational gaps. Marie loved nature walks and maintained at least one walk a day until the last year of her life.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ruth Lindholm; husband, Wayne Bengtson; daughter, Sharon Erickson; son-in-law, Rollie Mattson; great-grandson, Tyler Mattson; and 5 siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Mattson, Maggie (Jim) Griffin; brother, Frank Lindholm; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service was held on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 11:00 am at First Covenant Church in Red Wing. The visitation was one hour prior to the service. Interment was in the Marie Lund Cemetery in Lund, WI. Memorials may directed to the following organizations: The Evangelical Covenant Church (https://giving.covchurch.org), Lake Beauty Bible Camp (http://lbbc.com), Alzheimer’s Association (http://act.alz.org).
Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
