Margarite Drews age 99 of Brule, WI died Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Deerfield Gables Care Center in New Richmond, WI. She grew up in Albia, IA and at the age of 8 her family moved to Kenosha, WI. After graduating from High School, Margarite worked part time at a variety store. She met Larry Drews at Woolworth’s where they were both employed and they married in 1933. The couple moved to E. St. Paul, MN and raised their only son, Jack. Margarite and Larry owned and operated two variety stores around E. St. Paul, MN. She enjoyed teaching crafts and working tirelessly for many civic and church organizations. Margarite was the leader of the bay Gardeners’ Club and voted Suburban Life’s Woman of the year in 1962. She retired and made her home along the Brule River in Wisconsin. Finally, one of her most honored accomplishments was being named “Good Samaritan” by Catholic Charities Bureau for her passion for enhancing lives of those with Alzheimer’s disease. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry and her son Jack. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 24, 2012 at St. Anthony Catholic Church (11648 E County Road B) in Lake Nabagomon, WI 54849.
