Lorna Lewis 02/03/2013

Lorna Dorothea Lewis, age 88 of Hammond, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at her home.  She was born on February 3, 1925 the daughter of Herbert and Pauline (Gennrich) Henschen in Norwood, Minnesota.  She received her grade school education at Zion Lutheran in Benton Township, Cologne, Minnesota and graduated from Waconia High School.  After graduation, she worked for several years at Sears in Minneapolis in the mailing department.  On August 23, 1947 she was united in marriage to Duane Lewis from Roberts, Wisconsin at Zion Lutheran Church, Cologne, Minnesota.  After the marriage she helped her husband on the farm.  The union was blessed with two daughters and a son.  She loved to do fancy work, cook, and bake.  She loved to share her baking and cooking with her grandchildren and family.  Lorna was active in Circle and taught Sunday school for many years at Gethsemane Lutheran Church.  She was also a member of Hammond Central Homemakers Club.  She took great pride in doing yard work like cutting lawn, gardening, and flowers.  She loved her grandchildren dearly and would do anything for them.  Lorna is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Pauline Henschen; sister, Elda (Edwin) Leikam; and brother, Herbert Henschen, Jr.  She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Duane Lewis; children, Christine (fiancé, Jerry Strese) Hanson, Cynthia (Michael) Gleason, Evan (Rossina) Lewis; grandchildren, Erik (Lori) Hanson, Ryan (Sarah) Hanson, Pierce Hanson, Michaela (Josh) Knodle, Christian Gleason, Jeremy (Jessica) Lewis, Brock Lewis, Sean (Sarah) Lewis; 7 great-grandsons; brother, Vernon Henschen; sister-in-law, Carol Henschen; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Celebration of Lorna’s Life was held Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 1 pm at Gethsemane Lutheran Church.  Visitation was also Saturday from 11-1 at the church.  Interment will be in Baldwin Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Baldwin.
