Lee Shourds 04/12/2016

Lee Shourds, age 77, of River Falls died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Comforts of Home in Hudson where he had lived the last two years, complications of from Parkinson’s.  He was born June 23, 1938 in National City, CA the son of Phillip and Valentina Shourds.  Lee served his country in the U. S. Air Force obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant during the Vietnam War, Retiring in 1977.  He worked in Alaska for RCA (Radar Monitoring of Planes) a tour bus driver for Grayline and Princess Cruises during the summer and school bus driver and instructor during the winter months.  In October 1997, he married Phoebe Paulson.  Lee was an active member of the New Richmond VFW Post 10818, serving as Quartermaster.  Recently he joined the River Falls American Legion Post 121.  He loved thanking Veterans for their service.  Lee enjoyed politics and watching war movies.  He loved to drive and driving trips in a RV to visit his children and family.  Lee will be missed by his wife, Phoebe; sons, Patrick (Toni) Shourds, Alaska, Ronald Shourds, Florida, brothers, Michael Shourds (Tomika) Hawaii, Robert Ybarra (San Diego); and brother-in-law, Ray Gonzales (El Cajon). Granddaughters; Stephanny, Shauna, Lea, Kasey and Margie, Grandson; Burt, and 3 great-grandsons, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother Dee; brother, Herbert Ibarra; sister, Carol Gonzales.  A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 11:00 am at Bakken-Young Funeral Home in River Falls.  Visitation was Monday from 4-7 pm at Bakken-Young in River Falls and also one hour before the service on Tuesday.  Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.
