LaVerna A. Engesether age 85 of Star Prairie died Monday, November 7, 2011 at her home. She was born the daughter of Arthur and Alice (Ordway) Zager on March 19, 1926 in Standfold Township. LaVerna was raised in McKinley and graduated from Cumberland High School. On June 12, 1946, she married Lawrence Engesether in Cumberland. LaVerna worked as a volunteer and for 5 years a Volunteer Coordinator for the St. Croix Health Center. She was a guardian to many at the Health Center and a wonderful caretaker. LaVerna enjoyed getting to know people and had many friends. Most recently, she was a member of First Lutheran Church in New Richmond; formerly she was a member of West Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Osceola. Gardening and making lefse were some of her hobbies, but her greatest joy was her family. She loved her children and grandchildren very much and was so proud of all of them. LaVerna was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Alice; husband, Lawrence; son, Peter; sister, Muriel; infant brother, Robert. She will be missed by her children, Lawrence (Lavonne) Engesether, Thomas (Stacy) Engesether, Robert (Beverly) Engesether, Karen (Bill Radle) Engesether, Kristina (Rick) Nelson; 21 grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren; brother, Melvin “Bud” (Betty) Zager; sister, Lois Anderson; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A funeral service was held Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 11:00 am at First Lutheran Church, New Richmond. Visitation was held Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 4-8 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral Home Beebe Chapel in New Richmond and also Thursday from 10-11 am at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church or West Immanuel Lutheran Church.
