Larry Steven Ahrens, 73, passed from this life on Saturday, November 7th, 2020, surrounded by his family at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Ahrens; sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Marv Zilka; sister, Linda Peura; and brother-in-law, Greg Nordstrom.
Larry was born on June 13th, 1947, in Fairmont, Minnesota to Norman and Esther Ahrens. He graduated from Trimont High School in 1965, then Mankato State University in 1969. He married Lucinda Nordstrom on September 14th, 1968 and started a life partnership that was to last 52 years. Larry joined the Army in 1970 and attended Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia, earning the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He was stationed at several bases, ending in South Korea for 13 months as a Signal Corp officer. Upon his discharge in 1973, he continued his service with the Minnesota National Guard, achieving the rank of Captain.
Larry worked for 3M for 35 years retiring in 2008. He was an avid reader, loved spending time in northern Minnesota hunting, fishing, and riding ATV trails. He was a member of the American Legion of Wisconsin.
Larry is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughter, Lisa (Becket) Dickerson; son, Christopher Ahrens; mother, Esther Ahrens; brother-in-law, Torre Nordstrom; sister-in-law, Linda Nordstrom; brother-in-law, Russ Peura. Burial of Larry’s urn will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery (7601 34th Ave) Minneapolis, MN with military honors at a later date. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

It is with great sorrow I send this note to you and the Ahrens family. My sincere condolences. I am shocked and saddened by the news of Larry’s passing. I will miss him and and all times I would run into Larry at Fleet Farm. He was a wonderful man to know. I was blessed to have him in my life… at work and socially.
