Kathie Johnston-Spoo 03/07/2025

Kathie Johnston-Spoo, age 62, died on Friday, March 7th, 2025 at her home surrounded by loved ones.  She was born to James and Carol Johnston on August 16th, 1962.  She was the 2nd of 4 children.

Kathie worked a few careers over the span of her lifetime, but her favorite time was working for the New Richmond schools.  She loved working with the kids every day.  Every career she pursued she did so with gusto and always gave so much of herself to the tasks at hand.  She created many lasting friendships at everything she did.

Kathie loved sewing, crocheting, baking, gardening, and going leaf peeping on the UTV.  Any sunny day was a favorite of Kathie’s as well.  She loved her grandchildren more than anything in the world.  In recent years she loved snuggling and playing fetch with her dog Daisy.  Also, listening to her records of Johnny Cash and Bob Seger throughout the day was a great joy to her.

Kathie is survived by her husband Brian, 5 beautiful grandchildren, and many loving family members.  She fought a valiant battle with cancer while all the time staying strong and positive.  She is at peace now and looking down on us all and hoping we all live by her motto’s of ‘Til You Can’t and Be Kind”.

A private celebration of Kathie will be held at a later date.

Kathie will be missed, she was a wonderful friend and had so much gusto for life. I loved how she didn’t beat around the bush, you knew where she stood and I always respected her for that. She made me laugh all the time. She had the biggest heart and would do what she could to help you. I’m glad you’re at peace now.

I am saddened to hear of Kathie’s passing. She truly was one of a kind and such a special part of our juvenile unit family. She was thoughtful, creative, and talented. One of the best creations she made was a Peeps diorama of our juvenile unit space—it was incredible! Sending thoughts and prayers to you, Brian, and your family.

Thinking of our days working in family court, how you welcomed and supported me. Remembering the Chicago Bear coat you made for our basset Alvin. Always creative, kind, and funny. Looking at a picture now with you, I, and Elliott – a picture treasured.
