Jude Landes 03/20/2024

Jude Ann Landes, 74, of Somerset, WI, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024, with her family by her side after a brief illness.
She was born on September 15, 1949, in Rice Lake, WI to Milton and Gertrude Derousseau. On August 24, 1973, Jude married the love of her life, Jim Landes.
Jude recognized early in life her passion for learning and teaching. She pursued that passion as an elementary school teacher for 35 years: 20 years in Birchwood, WI (2nd grade) and 15 years in Osceola, WI (1st grade). She took great pride in enriching the lives of all her students and cherished the friendships made with her colleagues along the way. In retirement, she continued her passion volunteering for the Wisconsin Reading Council, serving on the committee for the new Somerset Library, and administering student tests in several school districts. Her care, compassion, and gentleness with everyone she encountered was recognized and appreciated by all.
Jude’s other passion was family. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and grandpups. She loved her trips to Madison and Wausau for events, activities, or just to relax and enjoy time together. Despite moving from the Birchwood/Rice Lake area in 1990, it remained a special place in her heart, often visiting family and friends in the area.
Jude is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Jim; children, Jenny (Scott) Hintz and Darrin (Tracy); grandchildren, Amelia, Maggie, and Nora; siblings, Brad (Sandy) Beffa, Suzanne Moran, and Mary (Rick) Hasselquist; siblings-in-law, Roberta (Wes) Anderson, John (Pam) Landes, Bob (Jenny) Landes, and Becky (Mike) Wolff; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and sidekick grandpup, Sophie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Gertrude Derousseau; brother, David; nephew, Lee Anderson; brothers-in-law, Scott Landes, Larry Landes, and Jack Moran; father-in-law, Vernon “Shorty” Landes; mother-in-law, June Landes; sister-in-law, Barb Landes; and grandpup, Autumn.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 4:00PM at Bakken Young Funeral & Cremation Services (728 S Knowles Ave) in New Richmond with visitation starting at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Jude’s favorite charitable foundation. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

Sending my prayers and hugs to the Landes family. Jude was such a special lady! When the Osceola District hired her, they hit the jackpot! Jude was a great teacher, mentor and friend. My children enjoyed spending their first grade year with her. They told me often that Mrs. Landes is “the best teacher!” But I always knew that!!! I’m thankful for the years we spent next door to each other. I enjoyed the stories she would share about Jenny and Darrin. I loved the visits with Jim. I will keep you in my thoughts as you try to navigate this great loss. Thank you for sharing her with me. ❤️
