On March 22, 2025, we gathered to pray and sing our beloved mother, Joyce Grove, into heaven. She was 91 years old and lived in River Falls. Born in Elk River, MN, Joyce was the eldest of three children, the daughter of Maurice and Elsie Tiernan. She graduated from New Richmond High School and faithfully attended her class reunions. Joyce earned a degree in Medical Records from St. Scholastica in Duluth, and her career began at the old Ancker Hospital in St. Paul in the Medical Records Department. She went on to have a successful career as the Medical Record Administrator at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater before retiring.
After retirement, Joyce enjoyed the winter months as a snowbird, making many friends in Arizona and at home. She had a passion for yard work, and every year, she cherished at least one day of a perfectly weeded garden. Even at 88 years old, she was still mowing her lawn. Joyce was an avid reader, loved family traditions and cooking holiday dinners, her flowers and music. Her faith was extremely important. She was a lifelong member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church where she volunteered for many years. Despite facing numerous health setbacks in her final years, she showed remarkable perseverance until she could no longer continue.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; daughter, Anne; parents, Elsie and Maurice Tiernan; sister, Jeanne Masloski; and many other loved ones. She will be deeply missed by her surviving family: children, Sara Rose of Hudson, WI, Sheila Conner (Mike) of Grand River, IA, and Barrett Grove (Kris) of River Falls, WI; brother, Maury Tiernan of Corona, CA; grandchildren, Luke Rose (Samantha) of Seeley Lake, MT, Amanda Beck (Grant) of Franklin, WI, Taylor Crook (Derek) of Beldenville, WI, and Brian Grove (Bella) of Lee’s Summit, MO; her first great-granddaughter, Nellie; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, April 4, 2025 at 12:00PM at St. Bridget Catholic Church (211 E Division St) River Falls, Wisconsin. Visitation began at 10:00AM. Interment was in St. Bridget Cemetery, River Falls, Wisconsin.
Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

Just heard about your mom, my deepest sympathy to all, 😢❤️
Thank you Honey. She loved your visits so much. You have the biggest heart, and she recognized that!🥰
My heartfelt prayers to the Grove families on your loss. I remember seeing Joyce in church when I lived in River Falls, Wisconsin as I attended St. Bridgets Church when I lived there. Such a kind and serene lady, always smiling and happy 😊, She instilled that in her family, such a talented lady. Rest In Heaven and God’s Peace ☮️ Joyce, you have earned your heavenly wings. Thinking of you all during this very sad time especially Barrett and Kris Grove whom I got to know quite well when I lived in River Falls, Wisconsin. Joyce will be missed by many people but never forgotten. With My Heartfelt Prayers and God’s Peace and Love, Mark VonBank-Park Rapids, Minnesota.

Extending my deepest condolences Sara to you your family and loved ones. I did not know your mom personally, but feel blessed knowing how you spoke of your mom, the beautiful life she led and shared with others. Praying comfort and peace surround you, your family and loved ones. Always Cynthia.
Thank you Cynthia. You are a blessing. ♥️
Our mom, Pat Joyce, grew up with your mom and loved her so much! Mom had a lot of stories about New Richmond shenanigans with Joyce back in the day. They always had a lot to talk about at the Olive Garden when they got older. Your mom was a delightful person. Condolences to you all!
