John Evans 12/09/2019

John W. Evans, age 87 of New Richmond, WI, died Monday, December 9, 2019 at the Saint Croix Health Center in New Richmond. John was born the son of Shalto and Teresa (DeLong) Evans on August 6, 1932 in the town of Spring Lake, Pierce County, Wisconsin.  He grew up near Elmwood, WI, graduating from Elmwood High School with the class of 1950.  John joined the Air Force and served his country for the next 4 years.  On May 2, 1959 he was married to Betty Bertelson at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church.  They lived in Houlton, WI and Saint Paul, MN before moving to Durand, WI where John owned and operated J & W Hardware with his brother-in-law.  They moved to New Richmond, WI in 1964.  John worked at Fabri-Tek in Amery, WI for a few years, then spent 30 years with Do-Boy Packaging (now Bosch) as a mechanical designer.  In retirement, John spent 20 years working for the New Richmond News.  He was a member of the Elmwood American Legion.  John enjoyed playing golf, traveling, the Packers, and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was a quiet, soft spoken man, who, at the age of 80, got matching tattoos with his granddaughter.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Shalto Evans and Teresa (Louis “Stub”) Manor. John is survived by his wife, Betty Evans; children, Kristin (Brian Hexum) Helgevold, Mark (Pattie) Evans, Jon (Leigh Watson) Evans; grandchildren, Kirby Helgevold, Cheyenne Evans; great-grandson, Ryan Irle; siblings, Virginia (Merlin) Place, Robert (Marilyn) Manor; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  A Memorial Service was held on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 5 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services 728 S Knowles Avenue New Richmond, WI.  Visitation was also Friday from 3-5 pm at the funeral home.  Interment was in New Richmond Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

    Mark- your father had a fulfilling life by the sounds of his obituary. How beautiful that he can now reside with Jesus. I’m sure he will be greatly missed- he sounds like a wonderful man. Take care and time to mourn.

    Mark, my deepest and sincere sympathy at the loss of your Dad, I knew him from the Dealership and liked him so much, he was such a thoughtful kind man. I know he will be so missed.
