Joan Marie Nyhus, born on March 30, 1964, in Oakes, ND, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026 at her home in Roberts, WI. She was lovingly surrounded by her family after an 11 year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Joan was a dedicated Nurse Practitioner at Health East and Neurological Associates, where she spent her career caring for others and making a genuine difference in the world of healthcare.
Joan was a passionate runner, always ready for a marathon or mini triathlon, and found joy in pushing herself to new limits. She loved spending her free time gardening, hiking, and being active outdoors. Her spirited approach to life didn’t just stop there; she was deeply involved in community service and took part in church mission trips, touching the lives of many along the way.
Joan will be dearly missed by her husband, Paul Nyhus, and her three daughters, Greta, Sara, and Erin Nyhus. Paul and Joan celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this past August. She is also survived by her brothers Steve and Mike Frojen, and sisters Maureen Schmidt and Loraine Frojen. Her vibrant personality, warmth, sense of humor, and dedication to her family, friends, and community will always be remembered. Joan’s legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Joan was preceded in death by parents Lloyd and Doris Frojen and brother Rick Frojen.
Services were held at Cross Lutheran Church in Roberts, WI on January 17th, at 11:00. Visitation was from 10-11:00 with lunch to follow the service.
A celebration of life will be held at the Olderness family farm on Saturday, June 13 in Oakes, ND.
