Janice Mae (Sakalos) Johnson 02/12/2023

Janice M Johnson, 90, of Hudson died Sunday, February 12, 2023 peacefully at her home in Hudson, WI. She was born May 23, 1932 in Bessemer, MI; the daughter of Paul and Mary (Parobek) Sakalos. Janice was a librarian when she met Harlan. On December 28, 1956, Janice married Harlan W. Johnson, Jr. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bessemer, MI. They moved to St. Paul, MN where Harlan worked for the US Army Corp of Engineers. Janice was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson, WI and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in New Richmond, WI. Janice liked camping, cooking and doing things with her family. Her real passion was gardening and taking care of her birds. She was usually in her garden at 6 am watering her plants and also making sure her birdbaths had freshwater in them each morning. She liked Blue Birds, Orioles and Cardinals which were her favorite. Janice also loved reading, especially her bible and crocheting and knitting. Janice is survived by children, Tim (Karen) Johnson, Brenda (Pete) Chapin; grandchildren, Josh Johnson, Andrea (Charles) DeLong, Christy (Aaron) Arendt and Keith Johnson; and 4 great grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary Sakalos, brother Don Sakalos, husband Harlan W. Johnson Jr. and son Lars Johnson. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 20th, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in New Richmond followed by visitation and lunch. Interment was held Monday, May 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI. Memorials are preferred to: Lutheran Hour Ministries (660 Mason Ridge Center Drive St. Louis, MO 63141) or Smile Train (41 Madison Ave. 28th Floor New York, NY 10010). Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
