Ikechukwu “Ike” Amaechi Ihiekwe, age 43, of New Richmond, WI, passed away on January 22, 2026, after a brave battle with stage 4 kidney cancer. Born on October 10, 1982, in Minneapolis, MN, Ike was a first-generation American whose incredible journey began with his loving parents, Austin and Amaka Ihiekwe, who immigrated from Nigeria. He was a proud member of the IGBO community, and his heritage was a source of great pride and strength throughout his life.
Ike was a devoted husband to Erin Shanblott and a loving father to their three sons: Eoin, Xavier, and Elijah. His family was his world, and his unwavering support and love for them were at the core of everything he did. Even during the most challenging moments of his illness, Ike exemplified resilience and hard work, holding two jobs to ensure his family never went without. He approached life with a steady, hardworking spirit, always putting others before himself.
Those who knew Ike can attest to his kind heart and selfless nature. He was a man who preferred to stay in the background, never seeking attention for himself, and always pushing to uplift those around him. His humility and determination served as an inspiration to all who crossed his path.
In this time of deep grief, Ike’s family seeks the comfort and support of their community. They appreciate the thoughts, prayers, and kindness extended to them during this incredibly difficult journey. Acts of kindness, from meals to simple gestures of support, bring light to their lives as they navigate this painful moment together.
A funeral service will be held in early February, where friends, family, and loved ones will gather to honor Ike’s remarkable life. Following the service, a private burial will take place at the New Richmond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Ike’s honor, reflecting the love and care he embodied throughout his life.
Ike is survived by his beloved wife, Erin; his three sons; his parents, Austin and Amaka; and numerous extended family members who will carry his memory forward. He will be deeply missed but will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
Thank you for keeping Ike and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this profound loss.
