Hollis Grubb 11/21/2015

Grubb, Hollis Charles, age 85.  Passed away on November 21, 2015 at Boutwell’s Landing in Stillwater, MN.  He is survived by his wife Sylvia, children Stuart (Susan) Grubb and Natalyn (Jon) Embree, and grandchildren Taylor, Connor, and Hannah Embree, and Muriel and Micah Grubb.  Memorial service was held Friday, December 4 at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 9:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stillwater.  Visitation was also held Thursday, December 3 at 4:00-8:00 PM at Jasmine Meadows, 6639 Jasmine Ave. in Grant MN.
Holly was born February 23, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio.  He played football and graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School.  Holly studied engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) and graduated in 1952.  He enlisted in the Air Force and was discharged in 1954. 
Holly met and married Sylvia Miller at St. James Lutheran Church in Grosse Point, Michigan in 1960.  Their son Stuart was born in 1963 and daughter Natalyn in 1964.
Holly had a 37 year career as a mechanical engineer.  He and his business partners founded Perry Grubb Associates, Grubb Equipment Sales, and Engineering America, which is still a thriving company headquartered in Oakdale, Minnesota.
Holly had many interests outside of work.  He was an active skier, golfer, and boater.  He coached youth baseball, basketball, and golf teams.  He especially loved flying, piloting his small Cessna airplane in Maryland and later gliding in Arizona.  Holly and Sylvia were also avid travelers, visiting Russia, Kenya, Taiwan, Columbia, and many locations throughout North America and Europe.
Holly’s last great project was Jasmine Meadows in Grant, Minnesota.  Holly designed and built year-round horseback riding facilities.  Jasmine Meadows is home to the St. Croix Trail Blazers who provide adaptive horseback riding for people with disabilities.
Holly left behind legions of friends from all over the world.  They remember his winning smile, sense of humor, and generous spirit.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Hudson.
