Herb Joseph Rebhan age 83 from New Richmond, Wisconsin died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 7, 2013 at Westfields Hospital. Herb was born on April 5, 1930 in Southgate, Kentucky to Herbert & Louise (Decker) Rebhan. Born and raised on his grandfather’s farm, Herb was always interested in animals. After serving in the army for three years and in Korea during the war, he went back to school to earn is undergraduate degree in Animal Industry at the University of Kentucky. He graduated in 1955. Under the advice of a University of Kentucky professor, Herb ventured to the University of Minnesota and completed his masters degree in Dairy Science and Nutrition in 1956. He went on to earn his PhD in Dairy Science with a minor in Physiological Chemistry. That same year he joined Domain (then Doughboy Industries) as a nutritionist. During the early years at Domain, he concentrated on animal feed research. Later, however, he was a member of the research team that developed Domain’s calf, swine and milk replacer programs. Herb was also instrumental in the development of Domain’s Forage Enhancement programs which led to the development of products like Crop Cure, Cut’ N Dry, and Tend-R-Leen, Domain’s no-roughage feeding program for holstein steers. Tend-R-Leen is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. After retirement, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and continued to farm, raising beef cattle and crops. He also enjoyed morning coffee at the Lowrey Hotel with friends, and he traveled overseas on several trips with his wife Laura. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Laura (Uselman); sons, Herb III (Karen) Rebhan, John (Paula) Rebhan, James (Gail) Rebhan; daughters, Mary Rebhan, Stephanie (John) Hayes, sister, Marilyn (Richard) Roesel; grandchildren, Tanya, Joseph, Andy, Emily, Joey, Petia, Jacob, Cole, Tanner, Patrick, Megan, Ryan and also several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Saturday August 10, 2013 at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH 151 S. Washington Ave. in New Richmond. Visitation 4-7 PM Friday at the CULLEN CREA FUNERAL HOME 307 S. Arch Ave. in New Richmond and also one hour prior to the service at church. Full Military Honors will be provided by the New Richmond American Legion Post 80. Interment Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Spooner, Wisconsin.
