Helen Junice Engebretson, (nee Peterson) age 91 of New Richmond died Monday, July 4, 2016 at Deerfield Gables Care Center. Helen was born the daughter of Ingval and Gena (Mickelson) Peterson on December 2, 1924 in the Town of Alden, Polk County, Wisconsin. She graduated from Pine Lake School, and starting in the 40’s Helen played her Martin guitar and sang with her sister Lillian at local events. Their big break in country music came when they joined the Chippewa Falls Barn Dance. For the next decade, they toured the Midwest and performed on radio. In the early 50’s they were invited to join the cast of the Sunset Valley Barn Dance on KSTP Channel 5 in St. Paul, Minnesota and starred on the show as the Michael Sisters for several years. On September 21, 1963, Helen was married to Floyd Engebretson at West Immanuel Lutheran Church where Helen was a lifelong member. Helen and Floyd traveled extensively, often with Lillian and Warren Hanson. Music was Helen’s passion, especially singing and playing her guitar. She enjoyed her coffee group at the grocery store and spending time with her family. Helen loved everyone she met, and always made you feel special. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ingval and Gena Peterson; husband, Floyd Engebretson; siblings, Idella (Albin) Walby, Clifford Peterson, Kenneth (Hilda) Peterson, Harland (Viola) Peterson, Alice (Curtis) Johnson, Melvin (Mary Jane) Peterson; and brothers-in-law, Walter Graese and Warren Hanson. Helen is survived by her sisters, Mabel Graese, Lillian Hanson, and Adeline (Don) Christopherson; sister-in-law, June Peterson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 11 am at West Immanuel Lutheran Church 447 180th Street Osceola, WI. Visitation was also Thursday from 10-11 am at the church. Interment will be in West Immanuel Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.
We are very sorry to hear about Helen,, she will be happy now to be with Floyd again. Very nice video, and many memories.
