Gary W. Running, age 85, of Somerset, WI, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025. Born in Somerset, Gary lived a life filled with hard work, dedication, and an enduring love for his family and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne, his brothers, Bobby, Donovan, Roland, Eddie, and his son, Troy. Gary is survived by his sister, Nancy, and seven children. His daughters Dawn, Denise, Dena, Ross, and Ryan from a previous marriage, and stepchildren, Stacy and Durand. Gary is also survived by his ten grandchildren: Tyler, Alyssa, Parker, Josh, Jayda, Logan, Sophie, Landon, Colin, Lilyana, Phoenix, and Owen. His five great-grandchildren: Jordy, Azella, Evelyn, Wyatt, and Preston.
Gary spent 18 years living in St. Mary’s, Georgia, where he was known as a warm and welcoming host. He enjoyed sharing his love of life, and appreciation for nature, with others. Gary took friends and family to the zoo, out to eat, to the movies, on boat rides to Cumberland Island, and for ice cream—his favorite being salted caramel. His hospitality was unmatched, and he always made everyone feel special and at home.
Gary was a proud and loving father and grandfather. He held on to precious details of his children and grandchildren throughout his life. Gary’s quick-witted humor, kindness, and friendly personality endeared him to all who knew him. Whether at work as a sheet metal specialist and welder or spending time with loved ones and friends, Gary’s positive spirit and generosity were always evident.
A Celebration of Gary’s Life was held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Bakken Young Funeral & Cremation Services, 728 S Knowles Avenue, New Richmond, WI. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM. A luncheon was served afterward. Interment is in the New Richmond Cemetery.

Gary will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.

I will miss seeing you every Saturday you made my day when you came to see me. One of my favorite patients you will always hold a special place in my heart I’ll miss you my Saturday’s will not be the same.
